Suicide prevention task force meets

The West Hawaii Suicide Prevention Task Force meets from 2 to 4 p.m. Wednesday at West Hawaii Community Health Center, 75-5751 Kuakini Highway.

The group’s mission is suicide prevention and support to families and friends who are left behind in the wake of suicide.

Also, Safe Talk and Applied Suicide Intervention Skills Training classes (ASIST) for the Hawaii Island community are scheduled for May and June at West Hawaii Civic Center.

Thompson named Officer of the Month

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee will honor Officer Mike Thompson as the Officer of the Month at noon Wednesday for his outstanding performance as a member of the Hawaii Police Department.

The public is invited to attend the Officer of the Month luncheons normally held on the first Wednesday of each month. Cost is $20 and is all inclusive at Huggo’s restaurant.

The Kona Crime Prevention Committee encourages and supports the police department and provides needed police equipment for use by Kona District officers when department funds cannot support those needs.

Kona Interfaith Meditation Society meets

The Kona Interfaith Meditation Society will meet at 5:30 p.m. Monday at Hawaiian Queen Coffee Garden, 75-1048 Henry St.

The meeting will include a continuation of the video “Jesus and Buddha: Paths to Awakening,” featuring Richard Rohr and James Finley, practitioners and teachers of the contemplative path. There will also be discussion, a period of silence and refreshments.

Also, an introduction to meditation class is offered at 5 p.m.
